Christmas Waiting: Part 2

I spent some time with some gingerbread friends, and a dog trying to be santa and my melancholy has turned to Christmas Cheer! I even had a dove chocolate promise, and it had a nice message.

Quilting on an Overcast Day

Today was a great day to practice my quilting. It was overcast and gray, so after exercising, paying bills, folding some clothes, and putting dinner in the crock pot, I set out to improve my sewing skills.  Since I have mastered(sort of) the sewing machine, I decided today I would work on sewing everything on the same grain and getting a good 1/4 inch seam. I lined most of the seams up. I think you will see I am on my way to making a mini-quilt...eventually. Hopefully, next week at the quilting bee, I will learn to bat and bind this bad boy. You will notice that it turned out pretty good except for a few minor complications.

Ever have one of those days you just want to hide in the closet? Sadie had one today!

Long, Hot Summer

The temperature is flirting with 100 and that is just the beginning sign that it is going to be a long, hot summer.  The beginning of summer promises baseball, fresh vegetables, new goals, vacation, and of course one lazier than ever dog!! Sadie's newest thing is falling asleep in weird places. This is a shot of her in the middle of the walkway to the kitchen and she won't move when you try to get by!! Maybe she is the kitchen police and what she is really saying is, "step away from the refrigerator!"

This is her very sad that J's Dad left. They visited this weekend and he spent most of the weekend outside with Sadie. After he left, she put her head on the bottom of the chair he sat in and waited for him to come back.

J's parents are great when it comes to gardening. I had a hibiscus since April, and it just wouldn't bloom. Low and behold, just 2 days after they left it was blooming!!

 You may ask why I have a picture of a turtle and I would tell you that it is me...running! I started a phone app called "Get Running" today that was recommend by my sister in law, Ky. It is couch to 5k in 9 weeks. I run sometimes, but I thought this would better train and encourage me. I must say after the first workout I was huffing and puffing. During the cool-down I came across this turtle. I hoped that this was not a sign of how slow I was running!!

We started recycling this summer in our neighborhood! Yeah!

 On the veggie front, my tomato garden is in bloom. The plants are doing okay. It is just my second year so I am still learning. My giant grape tomatoes in the bottom picture are actually miniature romas. I only have one "big Boy" tomato that was blooming, and this morning I awoke to find that it has been attacked by "Angry Birds"!! On the good news, I have an abundance of grape and cherry tomatoes.

Stairs

I have never posted twice in a day, but today I guess I am chatty. I am now on the stay-cation part of my vacation. J went back to work and I am confined to the house. You may ask why, and I would tell you that my car is in the shop getting fixed.  So anyway...I'm bored.  I was watching bad reality TV and decided I needed to get some exercise. Its yucky outside and I can't drive to the gym so I decided I would go up and down my stairs.  Its cheap, but I was huffing and puffing after just a few flights. Something strange happened once I started...Sadie started doing stairs with me!! After one flight she stopped in the middle and just watched. The moral of my story is this, "When you set a good example, you never know who you may inspire."

EASTER

Happy Easter! I made it! I have blogged everyday since Ash Wednesday. I think I have complained less, learned a little about myself, and had some fun along the way. I have raised some money, but I won't say how much because I don't want y'all to know how much I complained!! Thank you to all who have read my blog and supported me with positive feedback.  I think I will continue on with my blog. It may not be everyday, but when I feel inspired or need to be inspired. I will just see where it takes me.

The epilogue of my lenten reflection book says that we now have the fifty days of the Easter season to "let the good news sink in". During lent I participated in "Lectio Divina" or "sacred reading". It is prayerful reading of the scripture(sometimes over and over), pondering the word, searching for its meaning, really listening to what God is saying to us personally. I don't think this is easy. I know we can sit in church, hear the reading and listen to the homily telling us what it means. I think trying to find the meaning on my own has been very challenging, and requires more participation on my part. It seems to me that this form of prayer is not necessarily about asking God for what I want and need, but listening to God's word as he is telling me what I need and what his plan is for me. Our priest said today that we must " Turn towards Jesus and he will meet you there". "If you are sick, afraid, addicted, sad, struggling...Take a step towards Jesus and he will meet you there."

Enough babbling.....After Church, J and I took self-portrait Easter pics, made a big brunch, and bathed the Sadie who found a not-so-nice Easter Scent.
